Palazzo Zecca is a historic civic palace in the center of Lecce whose name recalls the building’s original function as the city’s mint. Sitting amid the compact streets of the Baroque old town, its limestone façade is carved from local “pietra leccese,” the warm, honey-colored stone that gives Lecce its distinctive glow. Visually it rewards both wide and close framing: balanced, rhythmic windows and balconies read well in context, while abundant carved details—floral motifs, masks and mouldings—invite tight textures and shadow play. In late afternoon light the soft stone takes on richer ochre tones; narrow approach streets concentrate that light for dramatic contrast between façade relief and deeper shadow.
