Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, or Palazzo del Littorio, is an iconic building located in the Esposizione Universale di Roma (EUR) district of Rome, Italy. Eur was designed as Mussolini's vision of a World Fair for Mussolini's fascist government and the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana was envisioned as the centerpiece of the zone. The building was designed by the three Italian architects – Giovanni Guerrini, Ernesto Bruno La Padula, and Mario Romano – and completed in 1937. It is located between two artificial lakes on the edge of the EUR and has a large open courtyard in front of it. The building has nine sides, reminiscent of the Colosseum, and stands on a two-level rectangular terrace. Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana is a popular destination for travelers and photographers due to its impressive architectural features. The building has been renovated since 2006 and now has a part of the MAXXI museum, a national cultural heritage site of Italy. Take your time to explore the sculpture, stone geometries, and the perfectly symmetrical structure of the Palazzo. Inside you can admire frescoes, mosaic and carved decorations that portray the history and symbolism of fascism, in addition to its stunning marble interior. It is a historical monument worth visiting when in Rome!
