Palazzo del Popolo stands on Piazza Alta, the compact civic and religious heart of Sarnano’s medieval hill town in the Marche. Its restrained stone façade belongs to an ensemble of historic public buildings gathered beside the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, giving the square its unusually coherent character. Inside, the Teatro della Vittoria provides a striking contrast: an intimate 19th-century auditorium with a horseshoe plan, tiered boxes and richly painted decoration. Photographs can emphasize the shift from the palace’s austere masonry and angular piazza to the theater’s curves, ornament and warm interior tones.
