Palazzo Borromeo
📍 From Isola Superiore, Italy
The Palazzo Borromeo is a historic baroque palace located in the Isola Superiore of the Borromean Islands on Lake Maggiore in Italy. Built between 1520 and 1560 by the Borromeo family, this grand palace is one of the region's most imposing Renaissance structures. The main facade sports an impressive arcade of seven arches decorated with busts of various Roman emperors. Inside, visitors can view a fine selection of Borromeo furniture, ancient books, 16th century tapestries, and a number of 19th century paintings. Highlights include the 23-meter high Grand Tower and the well-stocked aquarium. Don't forget to visit the wood-panelled library of Cardinal Giberti as well as the richly ornamented dome designed by Francesco Borromini.
