The Palacio Real de Madrid, or Royal Palace of Madrid, is the official residence of King Felipe VI, although the family does not live in the palace. It is located in the heart of Madrid, right in front of the Almudena Cathedral and next to the Teatro Real. The palace, built in the 18th century, is an excellent example of the Spanish Baroque style. Inside, visitors can admire the richly decorated ceiling, the Court of Honor and the Throne room, as well as a wide selection of artworks, tapestries and furniture from different era. The King's Kitchen and the Armory room are also available for guided tours, and the gardens surrounding the palace are open all year round. The palace is also home of important state events and symphonies.

The entrance to the palace can be easily accessed from the Puerta del Sol area, and it's open to the public from Monday to Thursday, from 10am to 5pm. Friday to Sunday the palace is closed and no entry is allowed. During winter, the Palace is closed from October through March, but the surrounding gardens and alleyways remain open year-round.
