📍 From Jardines de Sabatini, Spain
The Palacio Real de Madrid stands on the western edge of Madrid’s historic center, overlooking the gardens of Campo del Moro toward the Manzanares valley. Built in the 18th century on the site of the former Alcázar, destroyed by fire in 1734, it is the Spanish royal family’s official residence, though it serves state ceremonies rather than as their home. Its monumental stone façades, repeated windows and balustraded roofline reflect the grandeur of the Bourbon monarchy. From Plaza de Oriente, the palace forms a broad architectural backdrop to formal gardens and statues of historic monarchs; to the south, it faces Almudena Cathedral across the open Plaza de la Armería. Inside, frescoed ceilings, tapestries and richly decorated ceremonial rooms shift the visual emphasis from architectural symmetry to elaborate royal craftsmanship.
