📍 From Alderdi Eder Parkea, Spain
Palacio Miramar stands on a landscaped rise between La Concha and Ondarreta beaches, overlooking San Sebastián’s bay and Santa Clara Island. Commissioned by Queen María Cristina as a royal summer residence and completed in the late 19th century, it reflects the city’s emergence as an elegant seaside retreat. Its English-inspired design—red brick, pale stone, half-timbered details, steep roofs and gables—contrasts with the formal terraces and broad green lawns descending toward the water. From the gardens, the palace can be framed against La Concha’s curve, while the balustrades and clipped hedges create strong symmetry and leading lines. The grounds are a public park, though access to the palace interior is generally tied to institutional functions and events.
