Palacio del Gobernador
📍 Mexico
The Palacio del Gobernador, located in the ancient Mayan city of Uxmal in the Mexican state of Yucatán, is one of the most stunning archaeological sites in the region. Built by the Mayans in the late 8th century, this palace is renowned for its four distinct building levels, each of them one atop the the other, creating an impressive visual effect. Although it is not known for certain why the palace was built, it is thought to have been a royal residence for important guests. A unique feature of the palace is the many stucco masks of the rain god Chaac featured in its facade. Also highly notable is the Grand Entryway - a large doorway decorated with intricate Mayan symbols, masks and carvings. The palace is a must-see for anyone interested in the history of this marvelous culture.
