Palace of Versailles
📍 From Inside, France
From the grandeur of the Hall of Mirrors, to the tranquil beauty of the palace gardens, the Palace of Versailles is one of the world's most impressive palaces. Originally a hunting lodge, the palace was transformed by King Louis XIV into the most sumptuous palace in Europe. You can explore the opulent Royal Apartments and the sumptuous Hall of Mirrors, visit Marie Antoinette's estate, and take a guided tour of the gardens. In the center of the gardens is the Grand Amphitheatre, built for King Louis XIV as a place for shows and spectacles, and the Grand Canal, an artificial lake used for recreational boating. At 967 hectares, the estate is one of the largest royal and landscaped gardens in Europe, with its impressive botanical, animal, and landscape features. The Prince’s Orangerie is also located here, a huge greenhouse built in the 18th century to cultivate tropical plants and fruits. The site of the historic French Revolution, the Palace of Versailles is a must-see on any visit to France.
