The Palace of Fine Arts Theatre in San Francisco is a park and landmark well-known for its grand Greco-Roman style architecture. Built in 1915 for the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, the buildings were meant to embody the spirit of the Exposition: dreams, legends and myths of the past, the creation of a modern civilization, and the celebration of the Palace is a lasting reminder of the event. The park features a large lawn area with a lagoon, manicured gardens, and stately colonnades framing the grounds. The theatre stands out with its sweeping arches, stately columns, and a rotunda that make up the exterior of the building. Inside, it is renowned for its ironwork and art glass curtain panels as well as its courtyard considered a masterwork of Roman architecture. The theatre is frequently used for a multitude of events such as plays, movie screenings, wedding ceremonies and other special occasions. While visiting the Palace of Fine Arts, you will be sure to experience its timeless elegance and majestic beauty.
