📍 Poland
Krasiński Palace stands on Krasiński Square, just west of Warsaw’s Old Town. Designed by Tylman van Gameren in the late 17th century for the nobleman Jan Dobrogost Krasiński, this Baroque residence expresses aristocratic ambition through its broad, symmetrical façade, tall pilasters and richly sculpted pediments. Badly damaged during the Second World War and subsequently reconstructed, it is now part of Poland’s National Library, connecting a former private residence with the preservation of the country’s written heritage. The two sides offer distinct settings: the square presents the palace within Warsaw’s monumental urban landscape, while the adjoining Krasiński Garden gives its long garden façade a foreground of lawns, flowerbeds and mature trees. The repeated windows and projecting central section make the building’s symmetry especially clear across the open garden.
