Pałac Fengera is an eighteenth-century merchant’s palace on Mostowa Street in Toruń’s Old Town, along the historic route toward the Vistula. Named for the Fenger family, its Baroque architecture reflects the prosperity of the city’s trading households, contrasting with the Gothic brick buildings for which Toruń is known. The palace is also the birthplace of Fryderyk Skarbek, the Polish economist and writer. Its formal street façade and orderly rows of windows give it a distinct presence among the neighboring townhouses. A wider view along Mostowa reveals its urban character: this is a palace integrated into the dense fabric of a merchant city, rather than a freestanding residence surrounded by grounds.
