Painted Hills are an astonishing collection of formations of hills in the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in Central Oregon. These unique hills offer breathtaking views of colorful horizons with reddish and golden hues. The rocks in the area are comprised of great number of volcanic layers, which makes them look like layers of paint. The Painted Hills are so popular that it is now as an Oregon trail tour destination. To truly appreciate the beauty of the place, visitors can go on the 3-mile Carroll Rim Trail. For a more personal experience, visitors can wander and explore the area, taking time to observe the details in the formations and the blending of vivid colors in the rocks.
