Pałac Kultury i Nauki (PKiN), or Palace of Culture and Science, in Warsaw, Poland, is an iconic landmark in the city and one of the most recognizable buildings in the whole country. It was built between 1952-55, with the intention of commemorating the Soviet Union's presence in the city. Standing at 237 meters (778 ft), the higher tower is the tallest in the country and the entire structure is a striking example of Soviet architecture. The mid and lower sections house various science and cultural centers, including theatres, concert halls, cinemas, and the National Library. The large lobby also contains a comprehensive four-dimensional model of Warsaw, with hundreds of points of interest indicated. The main building is open to visitors, as is the viewing terrace which offers panoramic views of the city and the Vistula River. Inside the building, it's also worth checking out the skylights in the ceiling which depict some of the most important figures in Polish history. PKiN is a must-see for any visit to Warsaw!
