Osaka Castle is a historic Japanese castle in the Chūō-ku ward of Osaka. It is one of Japan's most famous castles, built in 1583 by the legendary Toyotomi Hideyoshi. It stands majestically on the site of the former Ishiyama Hongan-ji temple, and is now designated as a historical landmark.

The castle is surrounded by park grounds, which include both a beautiful traditional garden and a modern public park. In the central part of the park, there is an open air Tea House that was built in 1910. This castle is five stories tall, surrounded by three layers of stone walls, turreted stone gates and a moat. A section of the second floor exhibits portraits and artifacts of the Toyotomi family. Due to its size and importance, Osaka Castle has been used in many of the greatest wars in Japanese history. It remained in the possession of the Toyotomi family until 1615 and then passed to the Tokugawas. The castle was destroyed in the final stages of WWII and had to be reconstructed in the 1960s. Visitors today can see the full reconstruction, including the surrounding walls, moat and giant Cherry blossom tree. One of the most popular attractions is the Niju-bashi Bridge made of two connected bridges. The grounds of the castle can be accessed from Osaka-jo Koen Station. The view from the castle keep is stunning and no visit would be complete without a visit to the gift shop.
