Öresund Bridge
📍 From Lotsgatan, Sweden
The Öresund Bridge spans the strait between Sweden and Denmark, with its Swedish approach at Lernacken, just south of Limhamn in Malmö. Opened in 2000, it forms part of the road and rail link to Copenhagen, carrying motorway traffic above trains on a double-deck structure. The bridge reaches the artificial island of Peberholm, where the crossing continues through a tunnel toward Denmark. Its distinctive silhouette comes from the tall pylons and spreading cables of the main navigation span, contrasted with the long, low rhythm of the approach viaducts. Seen from Limhamn’s waterfront, the repeating supports draw the eye across the water, while the open horizon gives a clear sense of the crossing’s scale. The structure also embodies the close everyday connection between the two countries, serving commuters as well as international travelers.
