The Orchha Chhatris are a group of royal cenotaphs rising beside the Betwa River on the edge of Orchha’s historic center. Built in memory of Bundela rulers, these monumental structures reflect the town’s former importance as the capital of a powerful Rajput kingdom. Their tall, temple-like silhouettes combine square, tiered masses with domed pavilions and soaring spires, creating one of Orchha’s most recognizable skylines. From the opposite riverbank, the clustered memorials appear above weathered ochre walls and riverside vegetation, with calm water sometimes carrying their reflections. The contrast between their grand scale and quiet setting gives the scene its distinctive character.
