Opito Bay is a small seaside settlement on the eastern coast of New Zealand’s Coromandel Peninsula, east of Kūaotunu and north of Whitianga. A broad crescent of pale sand curves between green headlands, with the Mercury Islands visible offshore. Farmland and baches—the New Zealand term for holiday homes—sit behind the beach, giving the scene a rural coastal character. The open shoreline, grassy slopes and distant island silhouettes distinguish the bay’s landscape from the busier waterfronts of nearby towns.
