📍 From Bankside, United Kingdom
One Blackfriars is a residential skyscraper in Southwark, near the southern end of Blackfriars Bridge, where its curved silhouette stands out above the Thames waterfront. Designed by SimpsonHaugh, the tower’s asymmetrical form was inspired by the Lansetti vase by Finnish glass designer Timo Sarpaneva, giving it the nickname “the Vase.” A sweeping outer glass skin softens the outline of the building, while reflections of sky and clouds change its appearance against the more angular structures nearby. Views from Blackfriars Bridge and the opposite riverbank make its sculptural profile particularly clear, placing this addition to London’s skyline in the same scene as the river, bridge and lower waterfront buildings.
