Siracusa – or Syracuse – is one of Italy's most impressive ancient cities. Old Ruins in Siracusa are the remains of a long and varied history, most notably the Greek settlement of Syracuse that held sway over the entire island of Sicily for many centuries. Visitors to the ruins can view the remains of Ancient Greek and Roman business, religious and domestic buildings, some of which still stand amongst the ruins. The ruins include a large stadium, temple, mausoleum, gymnasium, and the remains of a Roman theatre. Other sights to be seen include the Graces Fountain and the Roman baths. The ruins are located just south of the city centre of Siracusa, and provide a fascinating reminder of a bygone era.
