Old red building in Lithuania is one of the country's most famous landmarks. Built in 1750, it was the site of the Lithuanian uprising in 1831 against the Russian Tsar and has served as a symbol of Lithuanian independence since then. The red brick is visible from a great distance, and the building stands atop a hill in the center of Vilnius—the capital city of Lithuania. Locals often refer to it as the “Red Fortress” for its impressive size and fortress-like structure. Its bright color also stands in stark contrast to the white and grey walls of Vilnius’ famed Baroque architecture. On the side of the building, you can find two small sculptures—one of two wolves and the other of two lions—which symbolizes the Lithuanian people’s struggle for freedom. The building continues to be a popular attraction in Vilnius, and the view it offers of the surrounding city is stunning.
