📍 From Beach, United States
Old Orchard Pier extends from the center of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, into Saco Bay, anchoring the resort town’s long beachfront. The present structure continues a pier tradition that began in 1898, although storms and fires have repeatedly reshaped it over the decades. Restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues give the pier its lively summer character, while its timber supports create strong repeating lines above the surf. From the sand, the recognizable silhouette frames waves, beach activity, and changing skies; beneath the deck, rows of pilings offer graphic symmetry, reflections, and textured foregrounds, especially when the tide exposes more of their weathered surfaces.
