Old Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey, California is a historic wharf, fishing pier, and public marketplace. Built in 1845 and designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1978, the wharf is an iconic symbol of Monterey and the best place to learn about the city's cultural legacy. It is home to many businesses offering fresh seafood, souvenirs, restaurants, and charter boats. It is also a popular spot for whale watching and to take in some of the historical sites the wharf is known for, such as the diving horses, old cannery buildings, the Customs House, and Fisherman's Memorial. Visitors can explore the harbor and wharf through guided tours, or just observe the boats and local marine life. Kayaking, paddle boarding, and fishing trips are popular activities here as well. The wharf also plays host to various festivals and special events, including the annual Christmas parade.
