📍 From Luther Ely Smith Park, United States
The Old Courthouse in St. Louis, Missouri is a US National Historic Landmark and an iconic landmark of the city. Built in 1828, it was the site of the trial for Dred and Harriet Scott who, in 1846, unsuccessfully sued for their freedom in a landmark case, and the site of the first two trials for Virginia Minor who in 1872 successfully argued for women's right to vote. It is now a museum featuring several permanent and themed exhibition galleries. Visitors to the building can tour the restored courtrooms and learn the stories of the people and events that shaped the city and region. The courthouse also hosts a variety of special events and educational programs throughout the year. Old Courthouse is located in the heart of downtown St. Louis and within walking distance of a number of attractions and museums, including the Gateway Arch, City Museum, and Union Station.
