Okayama Castle
📍 From Riverside, Japan
Okayama Castle is a stunning feudal castle in Okayama, Japan. It was constructed in the mid-16th century, and has played an important role in the region's history. The castle was severely damaged during World War II, but was rebuilt in 1966, as a tribute to its original form.

The castle is made up of two concentric layers of defensive walls, with a main keep and a few turrets. The main keep is a two-story structure and is made of white plaster walls and a black roof, typical of Japanese castles. Inside Okayama Castle you’ll find a souvenir shop, a library, and a museum showcasing artifacts from the castle and its history. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and feature blooming cherry trees, statues and ponds that are picturesque any time of year. There are also viewing platforms with great views of the castle and city. Visitors can also explore the gardens and Ichinomiya Shrine, located at the second gate.
