📍 From Oberbaumbrücke, Germany
The Oberbaum Bridge is an impressive, iconic double-decker bridge in Berlin, Germany. It spans the River Spree, connecting the two districts of Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. Opened in 1896, the bridge is a symbol of Berlin’s unification. The delicate architecture – its two 94 foot (30 m) towers with cascading wrought iron spires, its three colored beams, and its four Art Nouveau statues – makes the bridge worth admiring. Visitors can walk across the bridge and marvel at the cityscape before them. The bridge is also the site of Berlin’s annual Bridge Day Festival that takes place each May. On this special day, the bridge is closed to vehicular traffic and becomes an open-air festival with live music, drinks, and a variety of activities throughout its length. On clear days, the Oberbaum Bridge is an impressive place to take in Berlin’s cityscape; it offers some of the best views of the city.
