The Obelisco located in the middle of Buenos Aires iconic avenues, Corrientes and 9 de Julio, is the most iconic monument to the city. It commemorates the 400-year anniversary of the first Spanish settlement in Argentina (1580). Standing at a remarkable 67m tall, the Obelisco stands forever as a tribute to the city and its people, UNESCO World Heritage listed. Formerly visitors could take an elevator to the top for sweeping views over the city, although this is currently closed for renovations. The area surrounding the monument is great for shopping, eating and people watching, as well as entertainment and nightlife. A great spot to people watch and look at the buskers, street dancers and street sellers at work.
