Oak Island Lighthouse is a delightful historic site on the North Carolina coastline. Constructed in 1957 to replace the old one which had been in use since the 1880s, the lighthouse stands 65ft tall and shares a deep history with the town of Oak Island. The old keepers house remains, and visitors can explore and learn about the historic importance of the lighthouse, as well as appreciate the stunning views it has to offer. Visitors can explore a nature trail stretching along the length of the lighthouse and view bird habitats, butterfly gardens, and an archaeological dig. A museum located in the lighthouse talks about the early life of Oak Island and the importance of the lighthouse light. Tourists can also enjoy the scenic beach stretches and make a trip to the nearby Civil War Battlefields and Fort Fisher State Park. Rarely open to the public, the many stunningly beautiful lighthouses are sure to be worth your visit!
