The Notre-Dame de Paris is one of the most iconic and impressive monuments in Paris and France. Located on the Île de la Cité in the very centre of Paris, the cathedral has a rich history that dates back to 1163 when it was constructed. The exterior is dominated by two 69-meter-high towers and its intricate design which include statues, sculptures, stained-glass windows and gargoyles. The interior is just as noteworthy, with its great organ and spectacular stained-glass windows. Notre Dame's history has been turbulent; it was heavily damaged during the 1831 insurrection and then fully restored by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. The building is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can climb the spiral staircase of the towers or enter the crypts below the cathedral to observe its incredible Gothic architecture up close. It's well worth a visit for anyone looking to experience one of the most iconic sights in Paris.
