Just a short drive outside of the French town of Aigues-Mortes is Notre Dame des Sablons, an impressive nineteenth century neo-Gothic church complete with an 80-meter spire. It's an outstanding example of Romanesque architecture, with intricate, interconnected artistry resembling the Notre-Dame in Paris. Inside the structure, you'll see colorful stained-glass murals and the sanctuary lined with about 50 richly decorated chapels and side chapels. Its design and decoration make the church a grand sight, rivaling the famous cathedrals of the region. There's also a 19th century nativity scene which is very popular among visitors. Outside, take a stroll around the expansive, picturesque park and gardens where you'll find a small lake, majestic cypress trees, and a garden of old and beautifully maintained roses. The area is incredibly peaceful and calming, offering the perfect escape petal inhabitants to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centers.
