Northside Drive follows the northern side of Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park, separate from Tuolumne Meadows in the park’s high country. It passes beneath granite cliffs and beside stretches of the Merced River, connecting forested scenery with open views of the valley walls. At the roadside Valley View viewpoint, El Capitan and Cathedral Rocks frame an upstream view of the river, with conifers lining the banks and reflections forming where the water is still. The contrast between the level valley floor and sheer rock faces makes the scale of this glacier-shaped landscape especially clear.
