North Station
📍 From Inside, United States
North Station is a rail terminal on Boston’s Causeway Street, between the West End and North End, with its main concourse beneath the TD Garden arena. It serves MBTA commuter rail routes to the north and northwest and Amtrak’s Downeaster to Maine; the Green and Orange subway lines meet in a connected underground station. Its separation from South Station reflects Boston’s history of distinct railroad terminals rather than a single central hub. The setting combines transport with the city’s sporting life: commuters share the surrounding streets with Celtics and Bruins crowds, while the large arena and glass-fronted Hub on Causeway development frame the station entrance. This contrast between everyday journeys and event-day activity gives the streetscape its distinctive character.
