📍 Greece
The Nordland shipwreck lies offshore near Diakofti on the eastern side of Kythira, a Greek island south of the Peloponnese. The cargo vessel ran aground in 2000, leaving a partly submerged steel hull that has become a distinctive modern landmark among the low rocky islets. Its corroded surfaces, fractured geometry, and dark underwater sections stand out against the clear blue-green sea, especially from an elevated or boat-level viewpoint. Unlike Kythira’s ancient and Venetian-era remains, the Nordland offers a recent layer of maritime history and a stark image of industrial scale overtaken by the coastal landscape.
