📍 Sri Lanka
Nine Arch Bridge is a colonial-era railway viaduct near Ella, in Sri Lanka’s Uva hill country, carrying the line toward Demodara across a densely vegetated valley. Built in the early 20th century, its nine masonry arches and gently curving deck make it one of the region’s most recognizable railway scenes. The brick-and-stone structure contrasts with the surrounding tropical greenery and tea-covered slopes, while its tall piers reveal the scale of the crossing when seen from below. Views from the valley’s sides emphasize the repeated arches and sweeping track. Passenger trains still cross the bridge, linking this landmark to the working railway that threads through Sri Lanka’s central highlands.
