📍 From White Water Walk, Canada
The Niagara River carries water from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario along the Canada–United States border, forming turbulent rapids both above Niagara Falls and downstream in the Niagara Gorge. Below the falls, the river is confined by steep rock walls, creating standing waves, swirling currents and streaks of white foam across blue-green water. The gorge’s layered cliffs record the bedrock through which the falls have cut as they gradually retreated upstream. Views from the Canadian bank contrast the restless water with wooded slopes and exposed stone, revealing a narrower, more enclosed landscape than the broad sweep of the falls themselves.
