Newcastle Castle stands tall in the center of Newcastle upon Tyne. Built by Robert I de Brus in 1080, it has played an important role in many of Britain's most defining moments. Although much of the castle wall has been lost over the years, many original features remain including the inner bailey and barbican tower. Newcastle Castle is home to an exhibition which is free to explore and explains its extremely long history. Today, the inner bailey is used by local businesses and cultural events. The popular tourist attraction hosts events throughout the year that allow people to explore and discover the beauty of the castle.
