The New Brighton Lighthouse stands in New Brighton, a seaside suburb of Wallasey in Merseyside, United Kingdom. It was built with a cylindrical tower and has a distinctive red and white striped pattern. Constructed in 1763, it is one of Britain's second oldest working lighthouses. It is also the earliest known example of a lighthouse built in the classical style – a style which is dominant in the UK today. The 28m tall New Brighton Lighthouse stands impressive on the waterfront, providing a wonderful example of maritime architecture for visitors to admire. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Liverpool across the River Mersey. The lighthouse is open to visitors and guided tours are offered, giving visitors a fascinating insight into the history of this impressive structure.
