📍 From Schwangauer Street, Germany
Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. The palace was commissioned by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as a homage to Richard Wagner, the king's inspiring muse. Built in the style of an idealized medieval castle, it was constructed mostly between 1867 and 1886. The palace is one of the country's most visited castles due to its picturesque location and visual grandeur, and inspired Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty's Castle. The palace remains open for visitors for guided tours and features an interior dripping with fresco finishes and elaborate tapestries. The grounds also boast Alpsee and Schwansee Lakes, lush valleys, a private Marienbrucke bridge and striking views of the surrounding Bavarian mountains.
