Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill overlooking the village of Hohenschwangau near Füssen in southwest Bavaria, Germany. It was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as an homage to Richard Wagner. The castle has appeared prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle. The palace is open to visitors, who can explore the magnificent throne room, grotto, decorated avenues, bridges, the beautiful ‘Marienbrücke’ bridge and the magnificent courtyard with its grand staircases and wall-paintings. A guided tour in German and English is available inside the palace, revealing its rich interior decorations.
