The castle is situated on a rugged hill near the village of Hohenschwangau, nestled in the green foothills of the Bavarian Alps. There is no direct access to the castle and the steep hill it is situated on can only be reached with a short uphill hike, or horse-drawn carriage ride, from the village of Hohenschwangau. The intricate and colorful interior of the castle includes several bedrooms, a throne room, parade chamber, and grotto and a large great hall with tapestries adorning the walls. The castle offers magnificent views of nearby Säuling mountain, the villages of Schwangau and Hohenschwangau, Castle Lake, as well as Neuschwanstein’s sister castle: The Hohes Schloss (High Castle).
