Neuschwanstein Castle, in Schwangau, Germany, is an iconic 19th-century Romanesque revival palace of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Built perched high on the hill with its white stone facade resembling a cross between a Disney movie and a fairytale, it towers above the little Bavarian town at its feet. This majestic castle is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Germany, each year attracting more than 1.4 million visitors. Inside, visitors will find a plethora of ornate furniture and historical artifacts, as well as wall paintings, stunning archways, frescoes and stunning stained glass windows. The Upper Courtyard features the Throne Hall, a gallery of castle paintings, and even a grotto, while the Marienbrücke bridge provides excellent views of the castle and its surroundings. The castle is easily reached by train, car or local shuttle bus, and it is a great place to explore and admire.
