The Neptune Temple, in the archaeological site of Paestum, is one of the most important and beautiful ancient Greek temples in the world. Built in 460BC and dedicated to the God of the Sea, this glorious Agraphena temple has three impressive 14 meter (45 feet) high colonnades on each side of its Grande Pronaos. Along the long walls of the Grand Stoa, 38 monumental columns are still visible today. As an impressive testament to the city’s grand history, ruins of the ancient city including temples, baths and the public market are all still visible. Paestum’s archaeological museum is also a great attraction. Visitors can explore the Agora and its three incredible temples, one dedicated to Neptune, another to Hera, and a third to Athena. A great spot for history buffs and people seeking a peaceful escape, the Neptune Temple presents a timeless view of a bygone era.
