📍 United States
The Indian Memorial stands within Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument near Crow Agency, Montana, on the Crow Reservation. Conceived around the theme “Peace Through Unity,” it honors the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors who fought to preserve their families, homelands, and way of life during the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. Its circular, earth-toned design contrasts with the nearby military monument on Last Stand Hill, giving Native perspectives a distinct presence in the landscape. The recognizable Spirit Warriors sculpture rises above the memorial as open metal silhouettes, their forms shifting against the broad prairie sky. Inside, interpretive panels, quotations, and tribal imagery connect the battle to the peoples whose history extends far beyond the single day of conflict.
