The National Monument (Indonesia: Monumen Nasional), also known as Tugu Monas, is a 132-meter tower located in RT 05 Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. Built as a symbol of national struggle and independence, it hosts a unique evergreen flame to symbolize the spirit of the Indonesian people. The four pillars in the gardens of the monument direct the skyward flow of the flame and stand for the four main principles of the Indonesian Republic: Belief in God, Just and Civilized Humanity, Unity of Indonesia, and Democracy Guided by the Wisdom of Representation. A museum inside the monument complex introduces the history of Indonesia's struggle for independence. Attractions in the surrounding parks include an artistic depiction of a battle between a rhino and an elephant and the bronze Statue of Youth. Visitors can also enjoy the Imperial Garden and the pond of water lilies.
