The Nancy Brown Peace Carillon Tower stands as a grand monument in Detroit, United States. Height 75 ft (23 m), this iconic tower was designed as an apolitical symbol of peace by architect thinkform architecture studio. Constructed in 2013, it houses a 49-bell instrument, the first cast in Michigan since 1980. Engraved in its walls is a list of the world’s major conflicts since WWII, reminding us of the effects of war. At the top of the tower, visitors can enjoy an excellent view of the city of Detroit. Make sure to bring a coat as an open-air elevator is required to get to the top. Due to its peaceful symbolism, the Carillon Tower is a popular destination for school groups, history enthusiasts and peace activists.
