📍 Lebanon
Nabatieh is the administrative and commercial center of its governorate, set inland among the hills of southern Lebanon’s Jabal Amel region. Long connected to surrounding villages through trade, the city is known for its Monday market, when produce, household goods, and local commerce animate the central streets. Nabatieh also has a strong place in Lebanon’s Shia cultural life: public Ashura commemorations, including processions and dramatic retellings of the Battle of Karbala, transform the urban scene with dense crowds, banners, and ceremonial movement. Outside festival days, photographs reveal a layered southern city of busy shopfronts, hillside neighborhoods, minarets, and views toward cultivated slopes. During religious observances, discreet photography and permission for close portraits are appropriate.
