📍 From Museum Park, Qatar
Located in the heart of the Qatari capital, the Museum of Islamic Art is an impressive display of the longest-standing tradition of Islamic art and design. Established in 2008, it houses over 14,000 objects from more than three continents, three religious faiths and a variety of cultures, making it one of the world's largest collections of Islamic art. Inside, you'll find an array of tapestries, manuscripts, metalwork, woodwork, ceramics, and glasswork from the 8th to the 19th centuries. Most notable is the collection of maritime artifacts from the time of the Ottoman Empire. The museum building itself is also part of the draw, as its stunning interiors, a mix of ancient and modern, were designed by the internationally renowned Iraqi architect, Zaha Hadid. Alongside the permanent exhibits, the museum hosts regular special exhibitions, bringing in pieces from around the world. Visiting this museum gives visitors insight into the rich heritage of Islamic art and design, as well as a chance to appreciate such an architectural work of art.
