The Mura di Cittadella encircle the historic center of Cittadella, a fortified town in the Veneto plain north of Padua. Built from the 13th century, when Padua established the settlement as a strategic outpost, the oval circuit is organized around four gateways facing Padua, Vicenza, Bassano and Treviso. Its restored patrol walk follows the complete ramparts above warm brickwork, crenellations and regularly spaced towers, revealing the town’s ordered medieval plan and terracotta roofs within, with broad views across the surrounding countryside beyond. From ground level, the moat and tall gate towers emphasize the scale of the defenses; from the walls, repeating battlements create strong geometric frames and shifting perspectives.
