Mount Rainier
📍 From High Rock Lookout, United States
Mount Rainier is a glacier-clad active volcano in Washington’s Cascade Range, rising northeast of Ashford, a gateway community near Mount Rainier National Park’s Nisqually Entrance. Its 14,410-foot (4,392-meter) summit towers above surrounding ridges, giving the mountain a striking presence across western Washington. Extensive glaciers mantle its upper slopes and feed rivers that descend through steep valleys and dense conifer forests. On the mountain’s southern side, Paradise offers a recognizable view of the broad, snow-covered summit above subalpine meadows, with summer wildflowers adding color below the ice. This contrast between forest, meadow, and glaciated rock reveals Rainier’s enormous vertical scale. In the fragile meadow areas, staying on established trails protects the vegetation that gives these foregrounds their seasonal character.
