📍 From The Fortress of Rethymno, Greece
The Mosque of Sultan Ibrahim Han and The Fortress of Rethymno are two remarkable landmarks in the city of Rethymno on the Greek Island of Crete. Together, they define Rethymno's skyline with their magnificent architecture and stunning views over the town. The Mosque, constructed in 1636 from the remains of an old Venetian basilica, is one of the finest examples of Ottoman architecture in the entire region. Inside you will find two wonderful sculptures and centuries old tiles. The Fortress of Rethymno, built during the Venetian rule of the city, is a wonderful walled citadel set high atop a hilltop. Here you will find breathtaking views over the city and sea, and be able to view battles that have taken place in centuries gone by. Both the Mosque and Fortress are incredibly photogenic sites and should definitely be included in any visit to Rethymno.
